Animal health and welfare
Expert Committee
The Expert Committee (CES) on “Animal health and welfare" is tasked with:
- assessing the risks associated with animal diseases, found in France or liable to be introduced, in domestic animals and/or wildlife, whether or not they are vector-borne;
- assessing the risks associated with the interface between wildlife and domestic animals for diseases common to both groups;
- assessing the risks associated with zoonotic diseases, regardless of the origin of transmission, direct or indirect;
If requested by the originator of the formal request, these risk assessments may include the assessment of management options.
- ranking the health hazards for the different animal species, in metropolitan France and the overseas territories;
- providing risk managers with the scientific evidence (opinions, recommendations) needed for developing and implementing surveillance and control measures for animal and zoonotic diseases; and for disease vectors;
- assessing animal welfare;
- assessing biosafety control measures;
- assessing the impact of different human activities on animal health and/or welfare;
- conducting methodological deliberations in the general area of risk assessment regarding animal health and welfare.
